Use Rustic Rawhide Lamp Shades to Go Western

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Go rustic with genuine rawhide lamp shades, the easiest way to develop a country or rustic style. Even if your current lamps and furniture are more traditional, create a warm western or southwest atmosphere in any room.

Rawhide replacement lamp shades and table lamp shades will set the tone of your space and bring the warm country or rustic flavor that creates such a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.

Rawhide chandelier lamp shades can create a natural focal point for your room and draw elements together as the eye finds rawhide table lamp shades and floor lamp shades around the room. Mini lamp shades or clip on lamp shades are also perfect for a candelabra style lamp or wall sconce.

If you have a unique lamp that requires a special shade, rawhide lamp shades can be custom fitted to meet your specific needs. Rawhide lampshades are perfect for a log home or cabin as well as country, ranch or rustic decor. There is no substitute for genuine rawhide “raw hide” lamp shades for southwestern lamps, antler lamps, wall sconces, chandeliers and home lighting and rustic western lamps. Rawhide shades for rustic lighting compliment cottage, lodge style, rustic chic and rustic furniture like nothing else can.

Buy Only Genuine Rawhide Lamp Shades

Genuine rawhide shades are affordable and redily available on the internet, so don’t settle for faux or immitation shades. Genuine rawhide lamp shades are made by hand with old world craftsmanship. Skilled leather workers with years of experience carefully form and lace each shade with genuine rawhide. Rawhide lamp shades are crafted with sturdy welded frames. Premium quality goatskin rawhides are the desired hides because of their strength and translucency. Each hide is hand stretched, slowly sun dried, then hand stitched to add a sense of rustic beauty. When a lamp is turned on with a quality rawhide lamp shade in place, its translucent character comes to life. The shade allows light to emanate from within to create a natural atmosphere. Stretched rawhide lamp shades are works of art that will make a dramatic affect on your room and furnishings.

Southwest style rawhide lamp shades are made with bleached rawhide for a consistent color tone. A light creamy tan color, they are perfect for southwestern décor and compliment other southwestern elements such as pottery, carved wooden bowls, Indian rugs and rustic furniture. Their light color opens up a room and provides excellent light and texture. They are excellent for table lamps, sconces and chandeliers, log homes, cabins and cottages.

Western style rawhide lamp shades are wonderful accessories for western lamps and décor. Made with natural dark rawhide, they are a unique dark charcoal or smoked brown color and create a dark warm glow. Western rawhide varies more in tone from one hide to another with natural light and dark coloring visible in the hide. Western lampshades are perfect for log homes and cabins as well as ranch or lodge styles, complimenting dark wood tables, leather furniture, tack, floor lamps and cowboy accessories.

Country Style rawhide lamp shades are very unique, hosting rich warm colors and grain pattern. Using the same hides as southwestern or western, color is added to dye the rawhide to a variety of colors, the most popular being dark brown, red and green. Called country lamp shades because of their color, they actually look great with southwest and western decor as well as any country or rustic setting. Dark and rustic by day, they are warm and rich by night.

Western Scrapbooking Pages Free

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Western scrapbooking pages, free of charge, can be found on the Internet and in scrapbooking magazines. Scrapbooking is one of those hobbies in which people enjoy sharing pages they have created. Whether novice or professional, they want to help others have similar happy experiences.

Sources of Western Scrapbooking Pages

Western scrapbooking pages, free for copying, appear in many places on the Internet. You might want to try these options.

1. Galleries: Scrapbooking galleries are probably one of the best places to find western scrapbooking pages free. These galleries feature photos of successful scrapbooking pages, free for you to borrow from their creators. Scrapbook has nearly 350,000 images in their gallery, including both layouts and digital layouts of scrapbooking pages. A search there on the word “western” produced 214 western scrapbooking pages at the time this article was written. A mouse click at this gallery enlarges any photo so you can easily see the elements.

2. Forums and Chat Rooms: You may also find western scrapbooking pages free in forums and chat rooms. Sometimes, if you are cooperative, a forum member may even volunteer to create a western scrapbooking page free to meet your specific needs. Forum members are often scrapbooking “addicts” who love to share their talents.

3. Scrapbooking Kits: Online retailers who sell scrapbooking kits often feature 2 or 3 kits, showing large pictures of scrapbooking pages within the kits. The pages are copyrighted, but the ideas can be adapted. Digital scrapbooking kits are sometimes free for the taking as an introduction to a site’s digital elements. You may find just the western scrapbooking pages you want on a kit site.

4. Scrapbooking Stamp Retailers: Online retailers of stamps often show scrapbooking pages to illustrate what their stamps will add to a layout. We found lovely western scrapbooking pages free at one of these sites.

5. Scrapbooking Supplies Retailers: Internet retailers who sell an array of scrapbooking supplies follow the same practice: placing photos of samples to spark ideas, or giving 2 or 3 scrapbooking pages free as an introductory offer. Browse these retailers’ sites and you will come away with many ideas for western scrapbooking pages.

Do-It-Yourself Digital Western Scrapbooking Pages

Digital western scrapbooking pages can be created at your computer if you are handy with a computer graphics program. We use Adobe PhotoShop.

Begin by creating scrapbooking paper. Make your paper 12″ x 12″ for now. It can be reduced later if necessary. Create digital scrapbooking paper in several themes for your scrapbooking pages. These three ideas will get you started.

1. Western Riding Scrapbooking Pages

Make the paper background medium to light brown with a sandy texture.

Place a clear layer in front of the brown, and add words to it such as “Western” or “cowboy” to carry the theme. You won’t need many words. Vary the font for interest. This layer is optional on your scrapbooking page.

Find 1 or 2 clipart or photo images of cowboy hats. Then find a cowboy boot, saddle, and spurs. Add a rope if you wish. Once you have the graphics, create a pattern on your brown paper, repeating it at pleasing intervals.

2. Horseshoe Scrapbooking Pages

Make the paper background light brown, and then render clouds with light brown and ivory.

Find a clipart image of a steel gray horseshoe. Create a pattern over the clouds, repeating the horseshoe at intervals until the paper is covered.

3. Man and Beast Shoes Scrapbooking Pages

Begin by creating horseshoe scrapbooking paper. Add small clipart images of cowboy boots at wide intervals over top of the horseshoes. It’s good to have 3 different pairs of cowboy boots for interest.

Completing Western Scrapbooking Pages

Once your scrapbooking paper is ready, you can make digital western scrapbooking pages on it. Place cropped, scanned photos on each page. Overlap photos, with a piece of journaling placed to one side. Add a page title in bold, western font. Half a dozen wild mustangs in ivory or off-white might be placed at a page bottom, as though dashing in from one side. Add digital stickers to your scrapbooking pages and move to the next.

Tip: Western scrapbooking pages look best when “busy” cowboy paper is used intermittently with plain, more colorful backgrounds.

Western Art – Synchromism – An American Twist to Pure Abstraction

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Synchromism – The Concept

Synchromism, often wrongly spelt as Synchronism, was an American art movement founded in the year 1912-13. Co-founded by Abstractionists Morgan Russell (1886-1953) and Stanton MacDonald-Wright, this purely abstract style was the first to bring America on the international stage of Fine Arts. It is easy to draw a parallel between Synchromism and its Contemporary Art form Orphism, which was essentially a trend or specialization in the Cubist Art that placed a premium on the understanding and the use of colors. Orphism was considered the crucial piece leading to the evolution of Abstract Art from Cubism. The body of works in Orphism was related to the Greek God Orpheus, who represented music, fine arts, and the musical instrument lyre. Synchromism never restricted itself to a particular subject or a group of subjects. Nevertheless, in techniques and forms it remained similar to Orphism.

The Details

The underlying philosophy of Synchromism is to identify and recreate the colors symmetry, which is considered a similar phenomenon as the harmonization of musical symphonies. The co-founders argued that juxtaposed or lyrically arranged, colors are capable of conveying the message just as the finely orchestrated musical notes. Therefore, the ‘early’ paintings in Synchromism tend to reduce the use of blended shades, flowing tones, and hues. However, as the trend moved towards complexity in the later stages, such elements began forming a part of Synchromism.

The Artists and the Artworks

Morgan Russell (1886-1953) believed that the base sculptural designs can form the basis of two-dimensional painted representations. Such mutation is achievable through the interplay of various color tones, where rhythmic color patterns are used to compose an aesthetic abstract imagery. His 1913-14 oil work ‘Cosmic Synchromy’ is a magnificent 41.28 X 33.34 cm piece, executed in red, green, blue, yellow, and purple. This work is an embodiment of the various forms of the cosmic energies, as they interact and overlap with each other in the atmosphere. Another significant painting by Russell was ‘Synchromy in Green,’ dated 1913, which was exhibited at ‘Salon Des Independants’ as the first major work of its genre.

Virginia-born Stanton MacDonald-Wright (1890-1973) propounded the idea that strategically placed colors and patterns can be used to enhance human sensitivity and evoke various emotions. His magnum opus, ‘Airplane Synchromy in Yellow-Orange’ (1920) was an oil-on-canvas painting, featuring a complex design in primary colors (red, blue, and yellow). Some of the other leading artists associated with Synchronism were Andrew Dasburg (1887-1979), Diego Rivera (1886-1957), Patrick Henry Bruce (1881-1936), and Thomas Hart Benton (1782-1858).

Conclusion

Though often confused with Orphism, Synchromism discovered its own identity with time. In their joint statement at the Neue Kunstsalon in Munich (June 1913), Russell and Wright termed Synchromism as, “….the only possible version of reality capable of expressing the totality of different qualities applicable exclusively to painting.”

Tips For Attaining Western Party Supplies

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Western party supplies are for kids and those who reserves some part of their personality as a child. Not everyone likes a cowboy hat, or a cactus shaped light. Ten year olds will take a cowboy party as an event to enjoy to the maximum. Plan the birthday party of your child as a cowboy party, it will be liked not only by your kid, but also by all his friends at school. it is a moment of little honor for the kid and the party the coolest one he can ever experience.

I agree, a successful kid birthday party is not completed with good western party supplies. Careful planning of different aspects of the party goes a long way in making the event a successful one. The guests to the party would like to have some fun playing games you can check out different ideas of presenting them with a nice gaming experience. Give the monkey its tail – is a game that never goes out of style and the little guests are not going to get tired playing the game.

Also keep some element of suspense. This is keep the kids guessing what is to come next. What you think about squirt guns. Don’t give it to the boys until towards the end of the party. And have a look at the theme of the party – a cowboy party. Perfect setting to set the boys break loose. Planning the delivery of western party supplies can help you manage your party and help them enjoy the party to its fullest.

What a party without a little of music and dance. Cowboy party too has scope of dance and music. Get some classic cowboy music like Ghost Riders in the Sky. A cool technique to control the boys when you feel them going out of control is to keep a good set of cowboy movies and let them watch them while you calm down your nerves.

That much is OK, how do you now plan the food arrangement? It may not be possible to take orders from every one of the kids. Just keep three or four items of kid delicacies and ensure the supply never goes out. They can pick the ones they like at the moment and it is contentment for everyone.

The Western Delaware Nation and Language

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Western Delaware is a variation of a Southern Unami Native American dialect, taught by the Delaware Tribe of Indians. It is labeled Western because the language was used in the Western region of Oklahoma.

The Unami language in its original form – also known as Lenape ‘is now an extinct language formerly hailing from Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The Delaware Tribe has struggled to create tapes of natives and make up lessons in order to save the Western Delaware element of the original Unami speech, as most residents in Oklahoma have shifted to speaking English in the present day. Only elders aged ninety and above speak it on a day-to-day basis.

Western Delaware comes from Lenape (pronounced Leh-nah-pay), and the tribal name gets adopted to mean “the real people” (the Delaware part comes from the Delaware River, which frequents Lenape lands and was traveled on via canoes).

It is a language stemming from the Algonquian family. It has been said that the Western Delaware homelands are the original birthplace of the Algonquian language family, even being dubbed the “grandfather” by other tribes.

You may find it surprising to know that English contains roughly 150 Algonquian Indian words. This is interesting compared to the number we’ve borrowed from the much more widely spoken tongue of Russian (a mere fifty or so). We mainly inherited various animal names like caribou, moose, chipmunk, raccoon, muskrat, and skunk from the Algonquian relatives.

Plants such as hickory, pecan, persimmon, and squash and food meals including hominy and succotash are also examples. The prime Algonquian influence occurred in naming cities and states like Manhattan, Chesapeake, Connecticut, Mississippi, Missouri, and Wyoming. Some rivers may also reflect the influence.

“N-” is a very simple prefix that shows possession in the Western Delaware language. When it comes to forming adjectives, however, the spellings change based on if the subject at hand is animate or intimate. The color yellow is translated as wisaw, but “the yellow rock” is wisae, and “the yellow bird” is wisawsu.

One need not fret when learning the tongue and speaking it back to a native, however, as they will still probably understand you if you mix up the tenses a little, just as an English speaker could still comprehended “fighted” for “fought”.

There are eleven thousand Lenape people in Oklahoma today, many of whom have been mistaken for Cherokee. They were significantly effected by the various diseases Europeans brought over back in the day, and were also forced west by American expansion.

They only regained independent tribal status twelve years ago, and their language is also trying to be preserved by the Boy Scouts of America.

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative – What it Means For US Passport Holders

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Much talk has been generated in the last decade about US border security. Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, America’s border security has come under scrutiny, both by the US government and by the public at large. This reassessment of America’s border security lead, at least in part, to the development of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. This initiative ensures that US passport holders and citizens in general have a measure of assurance when it comes to border security.

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative is a cooperative effort between the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean Region. The agreement creates uniform expectations when it comes to crossing borders. It applies to every border crossing location in every country involved.

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative was developed in response to the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004. It sets forth regulations regarding acceptable and required forms of identification for travelers crossing borders in the Western Hemisphere. Since its inception it has been implemented in stages, according to type of travel (air, sea, land.) The latest regulations came into effect on January 31, 2008. Current regulations state that air travel over borders can only be undertaken with a valid US passport. Land and sea travelers must either present a valid US passport, or a valid form of government picture identification, plus proof of citizenship in the form of a birth certificate or naturalization certificate. The list of approved forms of picture identification includes:

* A driver’s license.

* Trusted traveler cards, like NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST cards.

* Enhanced tribal card.

* US Military ID.

* Native American Tribal Photo Identification card.

* Form I-872 American Indian card.

The final stage of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative will take effect on June 1, 2009. All travel by air, and most travel by sea and land will require a US passport. Border agencies at land crossings will still be able to accept some limited forms of other documentation in lieu of a US passport. These are known as WHTI-compliant identification, and include legal government photo identification plus proof of citizenship.

The governments of all countries involved in the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative are urging citizens to obtain a passport in anticipation of the last and final phase of the plan in 2009. American travelers should note that a US passport is the only universally guaranteed travel document in the world. Border patrol agencies reserve the right to detain travelers and even deny entry if they feel that paperwork and identification is amiss or suspect. Carrying a US passport on every trip, even land trips, will reduce chances of delays at border crossings.

While there have been some minor kinks in the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, most agree that it is a worthwhile and necessary endeavor. The US Department of Homeland Security feels that the initiative strengthens the security of our borders considerably. They also speculate that within a few years a majority of American citizens will routinely carry a US passport as a standard form of identification, such as is already the case in many European countries.

Western Wedding Gift Etiquette

Image : http://www.flickr.com

No doubt you’ve heard that “it’s the thought that counts.” When it comes to weddings and wedding gift etiquette, this is, at best, only partly true. If you know the couple well – and know their circumstances and needs – and think carefully about what will be both useful and appreciated, then the thought will lead you to a great gift.

Cost may be less of an issue if you really have thought it through, though with the expense of a typical large wedding and reception, an excessively inexpensive gift can be an embarrassment. It shouldn’t be since it is unreasonable to expect people to buy gifts they can not really afford, but often the expectations seem high enough to make many people feel uneasy.

Wedding gift etiquette does not require you to spend beyond your means and most newly marrieds will recognize this and respond as warmly to a less expensive but carefully selected gift as to some more expensive object.

Doing a lot of research on the couple is something not too many guests will do – or have the time for, it works better for close friends and family who have the opportunity to do some discrete interrogation. Most likely, you will only know one of the couple really well, so finding out how they fit together as a couple is important in selecting a meaningful and useful gift.

These days, of course, wedding gift etiquette nearly demands that the couple go ahead and set up a wedding registry – or a series of them at different stores and/or online. This can be a great help in reducing guest gift stress. All you need to do is go through the registry and find a gift within your cost limits. One really critical hint – get to the registry lists absolutely as soon as you can – especially if your budget is limited. Very often the less expensive wedding gifts shown in the registry lists will be spoken for at light speed.

By using the registry, you can be sure that you’re selecting an item that is wanted and that fits well into the couple’s planned lifestyle. A wise bride and groom will also be sure to include a variety of items at a variety of price levels. It’s bad wedding gift etiquette to only put high ticket items on a registry list and can easily lead to some gifts that simply don’t mesh with the bride and groom’s plans.

Finally, depending on the couple and their own background and traditions, a gift of money or the equivalent in a gift certificate may also fall within the wedding gift etiquette. For most newlyweds, a gift of money can be quite acceptable. It does, however, lack the aura of a personal touch which a carefully selected gift has and, as such, is less likely to be fondly remembered.

Montana has long been known for big blue skies, gorgeous mountains, abundant wildlife and spectacular national parks. As the home of both Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park, Montana is a favorite tourist location for visitors from around the world. Now Montana is also becoming a destination spot for weddings, corporate conferences and a wide variety outdoor adventure vacations.

In addition, Montana is rapidly becoming a home for artists and entrepreneurs drawn to its pristine environment and wide-open spaces. Montana residents are known for friendly, down-to-earth personalities and a strong work ethic. The prestige of Made in Montana products is growing along with the state’s reputation as the “last, best place.”

Montana residents have always been proud of their unique western heritage and the independent lifestyle of their sparsely populated rural state. As early as 1916, the concept of promoting products as Made in Montana was taking hold. Citizens wanted to know what products were being produced by their fellow Montanans and wanted to be able to promote their products outside of the state and to the growing number of tourists and visitors.

The modern Made in Montana program was established in 1984. The mission of the Made in Montana program is to assist Montana’s entrepreneurs who are creating, making or growing value-added products. Value-added means Montana residents who make a finished product that has been created, made, produced or enhanced in Montana resulting in 50% or more added value.

Businesses who wish to have their products officially designated as Made in Montana must apply to the state for approval. Once approved, the businesses have the right to display Made in Montana labels and logos on their products and promotional materials.

When you are traveling in the west and looking for authentic souvenirs, ask for Made in Montana products to bring home to friends and family!
